The GEBB is a strategic advisory board tasked with advising, advocating, and lobbying in the interests of Essex. It aims to bring a more coordinated approach to regional development, facilitating collaboration between Essex County Council, Thurrock Council, Southend-on-Sea City Council, and central government. This initiative is part of the government’s broader push for devolved decision-making.
The Board consists of 19 members, including 10 diverse businesses, key regional institutions, and an experienced chairwoman. Members include high-profile organisations such as DP World, Stansted Airport, Morgan Sindall, Essex Chambers of Commerce, the University of Essex, and Anglia Ruskin University, among others.
ICL is honoured to have a seat at the table alongside these influential organisations. This membership offers an opportunity to shape regional strategy, address issues impacting businesses, and advocate for government-backed investments, ensuring meaningful and productive outcomes. ICL’s appointment to the Board was supported by the experience of its Director, Edwin Strang, a Chartered Accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Directors.
The Board has already outlined its purpose and limitations, emphasising action and collaboration over unproductive networking or rubber-stamping decisions. With a commitment of up to seven meetings over the next 12 months, the time investment is focused yet impactful. The first meeting was held in December, marking the start of this important initiative.
GEBB’s launch has been widely promoted across social platforms by Greater Essex Business Board, Essex County Council, Thurrock Council, and Southend-on-Sea City Council. The rigorous selection process, which included applications, CV submissions, and vetting by a committee, highlights the selectiveness and importance of the initiative. ICL is pleased to be among the select businesses chosen.
This milestone reflects ICL’s commitment to regional development and its dedication to making a difference in the Essex business community.
